There’s something timeless about a wedding by the sea: the sound of waves, the golden light, and the feeling of sand under your feet as you walk down the aisle. In Phuket, that magic comes with warm tropical weather, exceptional service, and beaches that feel straight out of a dream. Whether you imagine a barefoot ceremony or a chic lawn by the ocean, Phuket is the perfect backdrop for a romantic and relaxed celebration.

What You Might Not Know About Beach Weddings in Phuket

Planning a beach wedding in Phuket comes with a few practical considerations that aren’t always obvious. First, when we talk about “beach weddings,” there are usually two kinds of setups: either right on the sand, or on a beachside lawn just a few steps away. Some venues are better suited to one or the other, so it’s worth discussing your preferences with your planner from the start.

For ceremonies on the sand, don’t forget that high heels are out of the question. Flip-flops make a great wedding favor, and for the bride, a light wooden platform can be installed to allow a more elegant entrance. Your planner will be used to these requests and can easily organize it.

If your celebration takes place within a resort, all permits are generally taken care of. But if you’re hoping for a ceremony on a public beach or a quieter cove, you’ll likely need a special permit from the National Park authorities. Costs usually range between 200 and 300 USD depending on guest numbers, and a local planner will typically handle this on your behalf.

Another point to keep in mind is the tide. Phuket’s beaches can look very different at high and low tide. Not only does the beach physically widen or narrow, but in some areas rocks can emerge that were previously hidden. If possible, check photos or visit the beach during different times of day before making a final decision on ceremony timing.

And finally, plan carefully around the sunset. In the words of Tiziano Terzani, “In the tropics, the sun doesn’t set, it vanishes in a sudden fall.” If you’re coming from Europe or the US, you might be used to long twilight hours. In Phuket, the transition from sunset to darkness is quicker, which can catch some couples off guard. Make sure to plan the timing of your ceremony and photos accordingly, so you don’t lose precious daylight.

Three Exceptional Beach Wedding Venues in Phuket

There are at least a dozen breathtaking beachfront venues in Phuket that are perfectly suited for weddings. But if we had to pick just a few that consistently impress us and our couples, the following three would be right at the top of our list.

The Surin. Tucked away on the secluded sands of Pansea Beach, The Surin is one of the most refined venues for a private beach wedding. The ceremony can take place either directly on the beach or on the adjacent lawn, with the reception hosted outdoors or inside the elegant beachfront restaurant. All wedding areas are separated from guest facilities, so you’ll have complete privacy during the entire event. And for the couple, the beachfront suite is one of the closest rooms to the sea you’ll find in Phuket – a truly romantic touch.

Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket. Located directly on the long stretch of Karon Beach, Centara stands out for its spacious layout and classic Phuket architecture. The beachfront area is ideal for large toes-in-the-sand ceremonies, with space for up to 300 guests. The open-air terrace restaurant provides a beautiful and practical option for receptions, offering ocean views and built-in rain protection. The resort’s variety of rooms and family-friendly features also make it a great choice for multi-day events with guests of all ages.

Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa. Set along the tranquil sands of Mai Khao Beach, the Renaissance offers a refined yet relaxed setting for couples who value both style and privacy. The beachfront lawn offers separate ceremony and reception areas, so there’s no need to reset the space mid-celebration. For cocktails, the chic Lounge Bar doubles as a stylish Plan B in case of rain, while dinner receptions glow under the included ambient lighting package. Couples often choose to stay in the beachfront villas, just steps from the sand and ideal for a romantic retreat. With one of the most experienced wedding teams in Phuket, Renaissance ensures every detail is handled with care.

Final Thoughts

Phuket has everything it takes to make a beach wedding feel effortless, but the key is in the details. Knowing how tides shape the shoreline, how fast the light fades, or how to navigate permits for public beaches – these are the things that make a good wedding great. That’s why having the right venue and an experienced planner makes all the difference. With both, you’ll be free to focus on the moments that matter: walking toward the one you love, hearing the waves in the background, and beginning your new chapter with the sea as your witness.

For Catholic couples planning to celebrate their wedding in Phuket, it is entirely possible to hold a proper Catholic marriage ceremony on the island. As with any Catholic wedding outside your home parish, a number of requirements need to be met in advance, and it’s important to coordinate closely with your home parish, the resident priest in Phuket, and the local diocese.

This article provides an overview of how to organize a Catholic wedding in Phuket, including which church we recommend, what documents must be prepared, and what the rules are regarding ceremonies held outside the church.

St. Joseph Church in Cherngtalay

Phuket has a few Catholic churches, but not all are suitable for weddings or have a resident priest in charge. In our experience, the most appropriate option for a Catholic wedding on the island is St. Joseph Church, located in the Cherngtalay area, not far from Bangtao Beach and the Laguna resort complex.

The church is of recent construction, built in a simple and gracious style. It offers a peaceful setting and can comfortably host up to about 180 worshippers. It is served by Father John, a kind and spiritual priest who speaks both English and Thai and has experience supporting international couples.

St. Joseph Church belongs to the Diocese of Surat Thani, which oversees Catholic communities across southern Thailand. All documentation for the wedding must be submitted to the Diocese, in addition to being shared with the officiating priest.

You can visit the parish website at phuketcatholics.com, where you’ll find more photos of the church, background information about its history, and details about the community it serves.

Preparing for a Catholic Wedding in Thailand

Couples who wish to celebrate their Catholic wedding in Phuket must obtain a number of documents from their home parish. These must be submitted to the Bishop’s Office of the Diocese of Surat Thani and to the priest who will officiate the wedding at least three months in advance.

Here is the list of required items:

  1. Certificates of Baptism and Confirmation for both the bride and the groom.
    • If only one party is Catholic, a dispensation must be granted by their Bishop to permit marriage with a non-Catholic.
    • Note: The marriage of two non-Catholic Christians is not within the competence of a Catholic priest.
  2. Certificate of completion of a pre-nuptial enquiry and evidence of having completed a marriage preparation course, issued by the couple’s home parish priest.
  3. Certificate of “Status Liberus,” confirming each party is free to marry.
  4. Written permission from the couple’s parish priest to be married outside of their parish jurisdiction. This letter must include the priest’s email address.
  5. Contact information (postal address and email) for the churches where the bride and groom were baptized.

In addition to submitting these documents, the couple must personally speak with the priest who will officiate their wedding. This is an essential step that allows the priest to verify that the spouses understand the nature of Catholic marriage, including its responsibilities, and are entering into it freely and with proper intent.

Outdoor Catholic Weddings: Are They Possible?

The short answer is no, with very few exceptions.

Although it is not categorically forbidden to celebrate a Catholic wedding outside of a consecrated place, such a request must receive explicit approval from the Bishop. In practice, permission is only granted in exceptional situations — for example, if the church becomes suddenly unavailable or if the number of guests exceeds the capacity of any Catholic church in the region.

Couples should plan for their sacramental ceremony to take place inside a church, with the possibility of holding the reception afterward at a resort or outdoor venue of their choice.

Final Thoughts

Organizing a Catholic wedding in Phuket is entirely possible, but it does require thoughtful preparation and coordination with your home parish, the resident priest of the chosen church, and the Diocese of Surat Thani.

At Phuket Romance, we’ve already assisted several Catholic couples from around the world in organizing their weddings here, and we’re happy to support you as well. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Planning a destination wedding in Phuket often means building your celebration from the ground up. Among the many decisions you’ll make, choosing the right wedding celebrant is one of the most important. Whether your ceremony is lighthearted or emotional, formal or relaxed, it’s your celebrant who sets the tone. Here’s how to find someone who matches your style, and what to expect in terms of pricing and services in Phuket.

What to Consider When Choosing Your Celebrant

The first step is defining the type of ceremony you want. Some couples prefer a minimalist approach with few words and no frills. Others want a story-driven ceremony that reflects their relationship and engages guests emotionally. Your vision doesn’t need to be fully formed, but having a general sense of tone—traditional or creative, serious or humorous—will help you narrow down your options.

Once that’s clear, start looking at celebrants whose personality and approach match that tone. Some focus on telling your story in a personal and structured way. Others emphasize humor, spontaneity, or the inclusion of cultural or spiritual rituals. There are also celebrants who specialize in multilingual ceremonies or have experience with LGBTQ+ weddings. No matter the style, the goal is the same: to create a moment that feels authentic to you.

When speaking with potential celebrants, ask about their ceremony-writing process, how many meetings are included, whether they provide a draft in advance, and how they tailor their delivery to different couples. It’s also important to ask how they handle unforeseen events, such as illness or other last-minute issues that could affect the smooth running of the ceremony. The best celebrants are not only creative and empathetic but also organized and prepared for any scenario.

Beyond skills and experience, trust your instinct. You’ll be sharing personal details and placing a lot of emotional responsibility in their hands. Choose someone who listens well, communicates clearly, and makes you feel understood from the first conversation.

Celebrant Prices and Services in Phuket

Phuket has a wide range of experienced celebrants, many of whom are native English speakers. Celebrants are also available in other languages including Thai, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian, Italian, French, and German. For other languages, it’s always possible to fly in a celebrant from Bangkok, usually with an added cost of 300 to 500 USD for travel and accommodation.

According to our data, the price range for a celebrant in Phuket is currently between 300 and 780 USD for full-day coverage, which includes both officiating the ceremony and acting as MC during the reception. The average rate sits around 550 USD.

Many celebrants also offer ceremony-only or reception-only options at lower prices. It’s quite common, for example, for couples to book a celebrant for the ceremony while asking a friend to host the dinner.

Some celebrants are also available for a rehearsal one or two days before the wedding. This service usually costs about half of the main ceremony fee. If your celebration takes place outside Phuket, such as in Khao Lak, expect a transportation surcharge of around 100 USD.

Most Phuket celebrants work closely with planners and are familiar with the main venues on the island. Whether you’re hosting your wedding on the beach, in a private villa, or at a resort chapel, they’ll know how to adapt their setup and delivery accordingly.

Final Thoughts

Your wedding celebrant is more than just someone who speaks during the ceremony. They are the person who brings structure, meaning, and emotional connection to that moment. Take the time to speak with a few options, understand their process, and choose someone who makes you feel confident and at ease.

If you’re planning your wedding in Phuket, you can browse trusted celebrants in our vendor directory or contact us directly for a personalized recommendation. We’ll help you find someone who matches your style, speaks your language, and knows how to deliver a ceremony your guests won’t forget.

Your wedding photos are what keep the magic alive. Long after the music fades, they’ll bring you back to the laughter, the emotion, and the atmosphere of your day. That’s why choosing the right photographer is such an important decision.

Luckily, Phuket is home to an impressive selection of wedding photographers, talented professionals who combine technical mastery with artistic flair, and who understand how to capture the essence of your day against the island’s breathtaking backdrops. On our curated photographer directory, you’ll find some of Phuket’s best, each with a dedicated profile featuring their work, pricing, and a personal interview.

What Really Matters When Choosing Your Photographer

Before diving into prices and packages, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on what truly matters when choosing your photographer. Start with their style, every photographer has their own visual language, and it’s important that it resonates with how you want to remember your day. Some lean into soft and romantic tones, others prefer something moodier or more editorial. There’s no right or wrong, but it has to feel like you.

Then, don’t just rely on a few highlight shots. Start by identifying images in their portfolio that you love, and ask to see the full galleries from those weddings. That way, you’ll get a clearer picture of how they capture the entire day, not just the showstoppers, but also the candid moments, difficult lighting, and unpredictable conditions. A portfolio shows the highlights; a full gallery shows the consistency.

Finally, get to know them. A quick video chat often tells you more than an entire website. Since your photographer will be around for your most intimate and emotional moments, it’s important you feel comfortable with them, not just as a professional, but as a person.

Prices and Services: What to Expect in Phuket

Phuket wedding photographers offer excellent value compared to many Western markets, with a broad range of pricing, service levels, and coverage styles to match different types of celebrations.

For full-day coverage, typically around eight hours with two photographers (your main shooter and his second), prices in 2025 range from 850 USD to 2,900 USD, with an average around 1,700 USD. This is the most popular option for couples who want the entire story of the day captured, from getting ready to the end of the party.

Shorter coverage packages of four to five hours are often available and priced at around 30% less than the full-day rate, making them a great choice for elopements or smaller, more intimate weddings. If you need more time, most photographers charge between 120 and 230 USD per extra hour, with an average rate of around 150 USD, depending on their experience and setup.

Delivery times are also something to factor in. Most photographers in Phuket deliver the full gallery within four to twelve weeks, which is quite efficient by international standards (except for China, where delivery is often much faster). To ease the wait, many include a preview selection of a few dozen edited images within a couple of weeks after the wedding, enough to share with loved ones or enjoy while on your honeymoon.

Interestingly, there’s a growing trend of couples asking for raw files, possibly related to the rise of AI editing tools. Traditionally, photographers see raw files as unfinished work; editing is a key part of their style, which is why many prefer not to share unedited images. However, some professionals are now open to sharing them for an extra fee, usually between 300 and 600 USD.

When it comes to booking, most photographers require a 50% deposit to reserve the date. In high season (November to March), availability becomes very limited, and top photographers often get booked out 9 to 12 months in advance. In the quieter low season, you may find not only better availability but also discounts of up to 20–30%, especially if you’re booking on shorter notice.

Final Thoughts

Finding the right photographer takes time, but it’s time well spent. After all, this is the person who will preserve your memories, and define how you remember your wedding day.

To make your search easier, Phuket Romance’s photographer section features individual profiles for each of our favorite photographers. You’ll find descriptions of their style and services, transparent pricing, and a curated portfolio of their best work. Each page also features a personal interview, offering a deeper look into their journey, inspirations, and creative philosophy.

Still unsure who’s the right fit for you? Drop us a message, we’d love to help match you with a photographer who’s perfect for your story.

If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding that’s private, personal, and picturesque, a villa wedding in Phuket may be just what you’re after. The island offers an incredible range of options—clifftop estates, beachfront villas, and tropical retreats—each with its own style. Whether modern or traditional, minimal or extravagant, there’s something for every couple. With total privacy and full creative freedom, these venues turn your wedding into a multi-day celebration shaped entirely around you.

Why Choose a Villa Wedding?

Privacy and Exclusivity. When you book a private villa for your wedding, the entire space is yours. No strangers wandering in the background, no other events happening at the same time. It’s just you, your guests, and a beautiful setting to enjoy at your own pace.

Personalization. Unlike resort packages that follow a fairly standard template, villa weddings give you full creative freedom. From floral design and ceremony setup to the dinner reception and entertainment, every detail can be customized to reflect your unique style.

Extended Celebrations. Villas are not just for one evening. Most bookings include at least three nights, and many couples take advantage of this to host welcome dinners, poolside brunches, and relaxed recovery days with family and friends. It’s a chance to turn your wedding into a truly immersive experience.

Intimate Atmosphere. Villas are ideal for bringing people together. With open communal spaces and cozy shared living areas, guests naturally connect and spend quality time together, creating warm memories beyond the wedding day itself.

Breathtaking Views. Many of Phuket’s villas are perched on dramatic clifftops or nestled above secluded beaches. With panoramic ocean views and stunning sunsets, your wedding photos will be nothing short of magical.

Late-Night Freedom. Most resorts enforce strict cut-off times for music and parties, often around 11 or midnight. At a villa, you have much more flexibility to keep the celebration going into the night, as long as the volume stays within reasonable limits. It’s perfect for couples who want to dance under the stars without watching the clock.

Understanding the Costs of a Villa Wedding

Planning a villa wedding in Phuket offers incredible flexibility, but it also requires a different budgeting approach compared to resort packages.

Minimum Stay Requirements. Most wedding-friendly villas in Phuket require a minimum booking of three nights. During high-demand periods such as Christmas, New Year, or Lunar New Year, this can extend to five or even seven nights.

Seasonal Price Variations. Unlike resorts that maintain fairly stable pricing year-round, villa rates fluctuate significantly depending on the season. You’ll need to consult each villa’s calendar to get an accurate estimate.

Event Fees and Security Deposits. Hosting a wedding at a villa typically incurs an additional event fee, ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 or more, depending on guest numbers and specific policies. Most villas also require a refundable security deposit between $3,000 and $6,000.

Planner Is a Must. Unlike resorts that have in-house teams, villa weddings require a professional wedding planner. Your planner will manage everything—from logistics and vendor coordination to designing the event and ensuring compliance with villa regulations. This is not optional; it’s essential. For a detailed breakdown of wedding planning services and pricing in Phuket, refer to our previous article: Finding Your Phuket Wedding Planner: An Inside Look at the Market.

Vendors Are Booked Separately. Every element—catering, bar, sound system, florals, lighting, entertainment, transportation—needs to be arranged independently. While this adds complexity, it also allows you to build a completely bespoke experience.

So, what’s the final price tag? It depends on many variables. Villas range from cozy 2-bedroom hideaways to 12+ bedroom estates, with corresponding differences in pricing and capacity. Season, length of stay, and your vision for décor, food, and entertainment all influence the budget. But as a general guideline, for a wedding of 50 guests, a Phuket villa wedding typically starts from about $30,000 and can easily reach $100,000 or more. The average sits around $55,000.

If you’re planning your dream wedding in Phuket and also want to make your marriage legally valid under Thai law, it’s entirely possible, but it requires a few formal steps. The process may sound a bit bureaucratic, but with proper planning (and the right support), it can be completed smoothly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through it:

1. Begin at Your Embassy in Bangkok

The first step is visiting your embassy or consulate in Bangkok to obtain an official document confirming your legal eligibility to marry. The name of this document varies by country: for example, Canadians receive a Marriage Affidavit, while Australians are issued a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (CNI).

Tip: Appointments are required, and some embassies are booked weeks in advance, so it’s best to schedule early.

In most cases, the document is issued on the same day as your appointment. Fees and requirements differ by nationality, so be sure to check your embassy’s website for the most up-to-date information.

2. Have Your Documents Translated and Certified

Once you receive your affidavit, CNI, or equivalent document, it must be translated into Thai by a certified translator. This Thai version must then be officially certified for use with Thai authorities.

  • Estimated cost: Around 5,000 THB, depending on the language and translation service.
  • Time required: Allow at least 7 working days for translation and certification.

3. Legalize the Documents at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Next, the translated and certified documents must be submitted to the Legalization Division at the Department of Consular Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Bangkok. This step validates your documents for official use in Thailand.

Tip: Go early in the day, as processing queues can be long, especially during peak travel seasons.

4. Register at a Local District Office

Once your documents are legalized, you’re ready to register your marriage at a local District Office (Amphur or Khet). There are several in Phuket, and you’re free to choose the one most convenient for you.

  • The office will review your paperwork and schedule an in-person interview.
  • Wait times vary. In Phuket, you may get an appointment within a few days, though it can take up to a month during busy periods.
  • You’ll receive a list of required documents and instructions, including the need for two witnesses (one for each partner).

5. Attend the Interview and Sign Your Thai Marriage Certificate

On your scheduled date, both of you must appear in person along with your two witnesses. After a brief interview with the Registrar, you’ll sign your Thai marriage certificate (known as the Tabien Somros), officially registering your marriage under Thai law.

6. Want to Register at Your Wedding Venue?

Prefer to have your legal ceremony during your beach wedding in Phuket rather than at a government office? It may be possible to arrange for a Registrar to come to your wedding venue, but it requires advance coordination and isn’t always available:

  • Not all District Offices offer off-site registration.
  • Additional fees and travel costs apply.
  • Booking several weeks in advance is strongly advised.

At Phuket Romance, we can assist in checking Registrar availability and handling all logistics on your behalf.

Final Tips and Considerations
  • Hire a local expert. Whether it’s a legal service provider or your wedding planner, working with someone who knows the process will save you time and hassle. Our team at Phuket Romance can support you through each step.
  • Allow enough time. Ideally, arrive in Thailand at least 2 weeks before your wedding date if you plan to handle everything yourselves. If you’re on a tight schedule, professional assistance becomes even more valuable.
  • Recognition in your home country. Once your marriage is registered in Thailand, you may need to take additional steps to have it legally recognized back home — including legalizing or apostilling your Thai marriage certificate.
  • Equal marriage rights in Thailand. Thailand is now the third country in Asia and the first in ASEAN to legalize same-sex marriage. The same process described above applies to all couples, regardless of gender. Foreign same-sex couples or mixed couples (one Thai partner, one foreigner) can legally marry and register their marriage in Thailand.

Opting for a garden wedding in Phuket doesn’t mean leaving the tropical magic behind, it means discovering it in a different, wonderfully immersive way, where nature itself becomes an elegant part of your love story.

The Magic of a Garden Wedding in Phuket

One of the most beautiful aspects of a garden wedding is how nature becomes part of your celebration. In a garden setting, the lush greenery, colorful blooms, and majestic trees are not just the backdrop, they are the décor. Unlike a beach, where the focus is often on the horizon, a garden creates an enveloping, three-dimensional beauty all around you.

Garden weddings offer a quiet, intimate atmosphere that’s hard to match. The natural setting, shaded by trees and away from crowds, helps couples and guests feel more relaxed and present. It’s a calm, comfortable environment that puts everyone at ease.

One more lovely thing about a garden wedding is the chance to include outdoor games and activities that bring guests together in a fun and relaxed way. From lawn games like croquet and bocce to giant Jenga or simple picnic-style lounges, garden weddings create a playful, interactive atmosphere where guests of all ages can mingle, laugh, and make memories together.

Imagine saying your vows beneath a canopy of towering trees, with petals falling gently from the breeze and the scent of tropical flowers in the air—a Phuket garden wedding turns this dream into a breathtaking reality.

Our 3 Favorite Garden Wedding Venues in Phuket

Here at Phuket Romance, we’ve explored most venues across the island. These three stand out as some of the most breathtaking choices for a garden wedding:

The Slate. A masterpiece of design, where Phuket’s tin mining history meets lush tropical gardens and artistic flair. The Coliseum Garden, a vast open-air amphitheater framed by rare trees and vibrant greenery, offers a spectacular setting for the ceremony. With multiple unique options for cocktails and receptions—like the magical Rebar lounge or the iconic Black Ginger restaurant—it lets you create a wedding day that feels like a journey through different worlds.

Keemala. Nestled deep within Phuket’s rainforest, this venue is a true retreat into nature. Recently, it was awarded the prestigious ‘Three Keys’ distinction by the MICHELIN Guide, making it one of only eight properties in Thailand to achieve this honor. Their ceremony space, known as The Forest, sits beneath towering trees with sunlight filtering through the leaves, creating a scene that feels almost otherworldly. Perfect for smaller weddings of up to 50 guests, it offers couples the chance to say “I do” in an environment that feels untouched and deeply serene.

Paradox Resort Phuket. Set just a short stroll from the expansive Karon Beach, this property offers a picturesque inner garden lawn framed by two grand trees that seem tailor-made for wedding ceremonies. The setting feels secluded and peaceful, while still being close to the beach for those sunset photos later on. We particularly love how the garden lights up at dusk with romantic lanterns, adding a soft golden glow to your celebration.

A Fresh Take on Tropical Celebrations

Whether you dream of exchanging vows under a centuries-old tree, surrounded by blooming tropical flowers, or dancing the night away under a sky full of stars and fairy lights, Phuket’s garden wedding venues offer a fresh and stunning alternative to the classic beach ceremony.

Let nature be the guest of honor at your Phuket wedding.

If you’re dreaming of a destination wedding in Phuket, wedding packages are one of the easiest ways to plan a beautiful celebration from afar. But what do these packages actually include—and what hidden costs should you watch out for?

We reviewed brochures from 18 top resorts in Phuket and Khao Lak to break it all down. Whether you’re looking for a beachfront vow exchange, a lush garden setup, or a traditional Thai ceremony, this guide will help you understand what’s typically included, what’s not, and which resorts offer those little extras that make a big difference.

How Many Packages Do Resorts Offer?

Most resorts offer 2 to 4 wedding packages, often organized by scale and luxury level:

  • Intimate Packages (USD 1,800–2,700): Simple ceremony setup, floral basics, a bouquet and boutonniere, and a 2-3 hours photography session
  • Mid-Range Packages (USD 3,000–4,500): Add hair & makeup, spa treatments, richer floral decorations, and few extras depending on the package
  • Premium Packages (USD 4,500–8,100+): Include one or more nights’ accommodation, fine champagne, extended photo coverage, private dinners, transportation, and much more

What’s Typically Included

  • Ceremony setup. A floral arch, chairs for 10–30 guests, aisle petals, and a table for the rings or sand ceremony
  • Celebrant. A non-religious officiant or master of ceremonies (note: most ceremonies are symbolic)
  • Bride’s hair & makeup. Included in most mid- and upper-tier packages
  • Photography. At least 2–3 hours of professional coverage, delivered digitally
  • Floral details. Bouquet and boutonniere, often with extra corsages or petal cones
  • Wedding cake & toast. One- to three-tier cake and a bottle of sparkling wine for toasting
  • Resort-issued wedding certificate. A non-legal keepsake issued by the resort

What’s Not Included

  • Reception dinner. Not included in most packages. Many resorts require a minimum food & beverage spend (generally USD 3,500–7,500) for dinner events
  • Legal registration. None of the packages include legal marriage registration—you’ll need to arrange this in your home country or through a local wedding agent
  • Guest accommodation. Packages typically only include accommodation for the couple (if at all). Guest stays are extra
  • Entertainment. Live music, DJs, fire shows, and other entertainment are usually offered as add-ons
  • Videography. Photography is commonly included, but video services typically cost extra
  • Additional guests. Most packages include setup for up to 30–50 guests, with extra guest charges ranging widely from USD 3–60 per person

What About Accommodation?

  • Accommodation in packages. Accommodation is generally not included in the most basic wedding packages, but becomes more common in mid-range and premium options
  • Room Type. When accommodation is included, it is typically in a deluxe or ocean view room, often with a honeymoon turndown service. A few premium packages, such as The Pavilions‘, include a 1-night Villa stay

Tip: Even if accommodation is not part of the wedding package, most resorts offer discounted room rates for couples and guests as part of the overall wedding agreement. Many also provide complimentary room upgrades for any nights the bridal couple books separately.

Unique Touches You’ll Only Find in Some Packages

  • Traditional Thai ceremonies. Several resorts—like The Slate, Centara, and Devasom—offer Thai wedding options with monk blessings, long drum parades, and water-pouring rituals
  • Anniversary gift voucher. Hyatt Regency’s premium package includes a complimentary voucher for the couple to return and stay for free on their one-year anniversary
  • Champagne package. Pullman Phuket Arcadia‘s top-tier package includes a Veuve Clicquot Jeroboam champagne bottle, chocolate fountain, spa, and champagne-themed décor

Final Thoughts

Phuket wedding packages can make planning easier—but they’re not one-size-fits-all. From basic beach vows to luxury multi-day celebrations, there’s a package for every couple. Just make sure you’re clear on what’s included—and what’s not—so you can plan (and budget) accordingly.

Tucked along Thailand’s Andaman coastline just north of Phuket, Khao Lak is the kind of place that makes you pause, breathe, and wonder why you didn’t visit sooner. With 25 kilometers of golden sand beaches, tropical forests spilling down to the shore, and sunsets that ignite the horizon, it’s not hard to see the appeal. Yet, for years, Khao Lak remained a quiet alternative to its more famous neighbor. That’s changing—fast.

Originally a sleepy string of fishing villages, Khao Lak has transformed into a premium travel destination without losing its soul. It’s still peaceful. Still spacious. Still real. But now, it’s also home to some of Thailand’s finest beachfront resorts, a vibrant food scene, and a growing reputation as one of the country’s most promising wedding destinations.

Why Weddings Are Moving North

More and more wedding couples are choosing Khao Lak—and it’s easy to see why.

First, the beaches. Long, wide, and wonderfully quiet, they offer the kind of privacy that’s hard to come by in busier destinations. Many stretches still feel untouched, perfect for intimate ceremonies with nothing but the ocean breeze and a line of palms for company.

Second, the atmosphere. Khao Lak is serene, wrapped in nature, and feels far from the party crowds. It’s a place where couples can actually unwind and soak in the moment with their guests.

Third, access. Despite its tranquility, Khao Lak is just over an hour’s drive from Phuket International Airport via smooth, well-maintained roads. On most days, the drive to Khao Lak is actually quicker than reaching the southern end of Phuket—making it both relaxing and practical for destination weddings.

And finally, the venues. Over the past few years, several world-class resorts have opened or revamped in Khao Lak, making it a serious contender in the wedding scene.

Our Favorite Resorts for a Dream Wedding in Khao Lak

  • Kalima Khao Lak. A hidden gem surrounded by mangroves, rivers, and forest, Kalima Khao Lak feels like your own private retreat. A short bridge connects the resort to the quiet beach, where ceremonies feel wonderfully secluded. Add to that a freshwater stream flowing into a lagoon and a stylish open-air restaurant for the reception, and you have a setting that’s natural, romantic, and visually unique.

  • Devasom Khao Lak. Nestled between a lagoon and one of the most scenic sections of Khao Lak Beach, Devasom is an architectural gem. Every room and villa faces the sea, and the wedding ceremony can take place either right on the spacious beach or tucked into a quieter corner beneath the shade of a large tree. The atmosphere is luxurious yet deeply serene, with thoughtful design elements that blend Thai and Southeast Asian inspirations.

  • Le Méridien Khao Lak. With the largest ocean-view lawn in the area, Le Méridien is ideal for grand celebrations, including multi-day Indian weddings. The resort offers seven restaurants, three massive pools, and a sweeping beachfront that can host up to 400 guests. Its indoor ballroom also provides a reliable Plan B in case of rain.

  • Avani+ Khao Lak. Designed with destination weddings in mind, Avani+ is a large, family-friendly resort that’s become a favorite for Indian weddings in particular. It offers an expansive beachfront, several event areas, and one of the largest indoor ballrooms in the region. While it shines in hosting big celebrations, it also has quieter corners that are perfect for smaller celebrations.

  • Pullman Khao Lak Resort. Pullman brings contemporary flair to the beachfront, with one of the most meticulously kept lawns in Khao Lak. It’s also a great choice for couples wanting a seamless indoor-outdoor experience, thanks to its stunning all-glass ballroom. The resort offers all-inclusive options, making it easier to host large groups without the stress of unpredictable costs.

A Quiet Rise to Prominence

It’s clear that Khao Lak is no longer just a side trip from Phuket. With world-class resorts, postcard-worthy beaches, and a growing infrastructure for weddings and events, it’s emerging as a top destination in its own right.

At Phuket Romance, we’ve seen a noticeable increase in wedding inquiries for Khao Lak in recent months—especially from couples looking for something different, intimate, and naturally beautiful. It may still fly under the radar for now, but Khao Lak’s star is definitely rising.

When the Stars Align: How Thai Couples Choose Their Wedding Dates https://phuketromance.com/choosing-wedding-date-thailand/ https://phuketromance.com/choosing-wedding-date-thailand/#respond Wed, 23 Apr 2025 10:06:01 +0000 https://phuketromance.com/?p=3775 In Thailand, choosing a wedding date is not merely a matter of convenience; it is a significant step rooted in tradition, astrology, and spiritual beliefs. In Thailand, choosing a wedding date is not merely a matter of convenience; it is a significant step rooted in tradition, astrology, and spiritual beliefs. Many Thai couples seek guidance from monks or fortune tellers to ensure that their chosen date aligns with good fortune and prosperity. The belief is that a well-chosen wedding date sets the foundation for a harmonious and long-lasting marriage, while an inauspicious date could invite obstacles and misfortune.

The Role of Monks and Fortune Tellers in Choosing a Wedding Date

For many couples, the first step in selecting a wedding date is consulting a Buddhist monk. Monks play a vital role in Thai society, offering spiritual advice and blessings. Using ancient Buddhist calendars and sacred texts, they determine which days hold positive energy and which should be avoided. The process involves careful calculations based on the couple’s birth dates and astrological influences, ensuring that their union begins under the most favorable conditions.

In addition to monks, many couples turn to fortune tellers, known in Thai as “Mor du”, who specialize in astrology and numerology. These experts analyze the couple’s birth charts, considering planetary alignments and the compatibility of their zodiac signs. By interpreting these cosmic elements, fortune tellers pinpoint a wedding date that enhances the couple’s destiny, promoting love, stability, and financial success. Some even provide additional recommendations, such as auspicious colors for the wedding or specific rituals to perform for good luck.

Astrological and Lunar Influences on Wedding Dates

The Thai lunar calendar plays a crucial role in selecting wedding dates, as it is believed that moon phases influence human fortune. Days when the moon is waxing, symbolizing growth and expansion, are particularly favored. Full moon days are considered especially auspicious due to their strong spiritual energy, making them a popular choice for Buddhist weddings. Conversely, waning moon phases, which represent decline and loss, are often avoided, as they are thought to bring instability to a marriage.

Eclipse days are also considered highly inauspicious, as these celestial events are believed to disrupt cosmic balance. Similarly, weddings are rarely scheduled during the Hungry Ghost Festival, a time when spirits are believed to roam freely, which is seen as bad luck for new beginnings.

The Significance of Numbers in Choosing a Wedding Date

Numbers carry deep symbolic meaning in Thai culture, and certain numbers are believed to bring prosperity and happiness to a marriage. The number nine is particularly auspicious, as its pronunciation in Thai (gao) sounds similar to the word for progress and success. Many couples choose dates that include this number, such as September 9 or a ceremony time like 9:09 AM, believing it will bless their union with longevity and good fortune. The number eight is also popular, as it represents infinity and endless prosperity.

On the other hand, some numbers are less favorable, depending on personal beliefs and cultural interpretations. Couples often avoid numbers associated with loss or hardship, opting instead for dates that reinforce positive energy and stability.

Cultural and Practical Considerations

Beyond spiritual and astrological influences, Thai couples also take practical considerations into account when choosing a wedding date. Many prefer to marry on weekends or public holidays to ensure that family and friends can attend the celebration. Religious observance days, known as Wan Phra, while sacred, are sometimes avoided, as they are traditionally reserved for Buddhist practices rather than social events.

Availability of venues and vendors is another important factor. Popular wedding locations, particularly in Phuket, can book out months or even years in advance during peak seasons. As a result, some couples find themselves balancing the need for an auspicious date with the realities of venue availability and guest convenience.

In modern times, Western influences have also played a role in wedding date selection. Some couples choose sentimental dates such as Valentine’s Day or aesthetically pleasing dates like 2/22/22. While these choices may not always align with traditional astrological beliefs, they hold personal significance for the couple, reflecting the evolving nature of Thai wedding customs.

Final Thoughts

Selecting a wedding date in Thailand is a beautiful blend of tradition, spirituality, and practicality. Whether guided by monks, astrologers, or personal preferences, Thai couples put great thought into ensuring their marriage begins on a day filled with positive energy. While ancient customs remain deeply respected, modern influences have introduced greater flexibility, allowing couples to balance cultural traditions with contemporary lifestyles.

For those planning a Thai wedding, whether local or international, understanding the significance of wedding date selection can add a meaningful dimension to the celebration.
