10 Questions

Could you tell us about your hometown and any other places that hold a place in your heart?

I hail from a small town in Australia where the mountains touch the sea. It is a rural coastal area with kilometers of different bays, headlands & stunning white sand beaches which is surrounded by national park mountains, lakes & rivers.

When did you first move to Phuket and why?

I had no intention of living in Phuket, even Asia for that matter however, I came on holiday, fell in love with the lifestyle, the local people and had some business opportunities. I’ve been living now in Phuket since 2010 and thoroughly enjoy the life here where it feels like one long summer that never ends.

What profession did you have before becoming a celebrant?

I guess you’d call me a businessman where I’ve always had the passion to start small businesses that support community development, empowering others & giving opportunities to those who normally wouldn’t have it.

What inspired your choice of becoming a wedding celebrant?

It was fate I’d say. My good friends asked me if I’d be their celebrant where I replied, “can I do that?”. From that first wedding 10 years ago more couples found out that I could do this and it just grew and grew. It was after a couple of years when I realised that I really enjoyed this and decided to embrace that I was naturally suited to be a celebrant and took it on more seriously.

How do you prepare for a wedding ceremony and how do you collaborate with the couple throughout the process?

I’m here to help facilitate their wishes and bring to life the ceremony that they are hoping for. I send some questions which helps the couple plan and me to prepare. Then having a video call or pre-meet we can go through the flow of the ceremony so the couple are familiar and at ease.

Is there any moment of the ceremony or any specific ritual that speaks to you more profoundly?

The vows for sure. This is the moment where the couple gets to be REAL and lay it all out to their special person publically. The best vows are the ones written from the heart and not written to impress their guests but to show the person standing in front of them how they really feel and what they are promising for their future.

Is there any wedding venue in Phuket that you particularly love?

Ooo this is a hard one as there are so many. Baba Nest is spectacular!

If you could go back to any time in history, what famous wedding would you love to celebrate?

My mum & dad’s wedding. Would have been so cool to see their young love and going wild with their friends.

What advice would you give to couples that are preparing for their big day?

The ceremony is about you two not your family's wishes. The reception dinner party is about them where you can make sure you give them a good time. Enjoy the whole process from the moment you start choosing a venue & a date right down to all the little details of what colour the invitations should be. It’s not just your wedding day that is the wedding, it’s all the planning and excitement of dreaming and interacting with suppliers etc Live each & every moment of the process, it’s all part of the wedding fun!
