10 Questions

Could you tell us about your hometown and any other places that hold a place in your heart?

I grew up in Thai Muang, a small town close to Phuket Island, so I’ve always felt connected to both places. My childhood was filled with football, a passion that has stayed with me into adulthood. Whenever I get a break from work, I enjoy playing football with my friends and now, I’ve started bringing my son along to the field too. Beyond Thailand, Newcastle holds a special place in my heart because I’ve been a lifelong supporter of their football team. A few years ago, I had the chance to visit the city, and I fell in love with it. Newcastle is a safe, family-friendly city with a welcoming atmosphere.

When did you first move to Phuket and why?

After graduating in Bangkok, I had dreams of becoming a pilot, but I discovered that an eye condition prevented me from pursuing that path. Instead, I began my career as an air traffic controller, working on an offshore rig in the Gulf of Thailand. Eventually, I decided to move back to Phuket to be closer to my family and to start one of my own. I’ve been living here ever since, working full-time with AOT (Airports of Thailand), where my role also includes acting as an aviation inspector to ensure that aviation standards meet the international requirements set by ICAO.

What inspired your choice of becoming a wedding photographer?

My journey as a wedding photographer began when my best friend asked me to photograph his wedding. I’ve always enjoyed photography as a hobby, and with my family owning a photo lab business, it felt like a natural fit. What truly inspired me to pursue it professionally was seeing how much people appreciated my work and the joy it brought them.

What is your favorite moment to capture during a wedding?

My favorite moment to capture during a wedding is when the parents of the couple give their speeches. It often begins with memories of when the bride or groom was a little girl or boy, and it’s always incredibly emotional and touching. You can feel the love and care in every word, emotions that are often hard to express openly. A wedding is a special day where these feelings are beautifully brought to the surface, and I love being able to capture that.

Is there any photographer or artist who greatly influenced your style?

While no specific wedding photographer has influenced my style, I draw a lot of artistic inspiration from Ansel Adams, the renowned American landscape photographer and environmentalist known for his striking black-and-white images. I admire his "pure" photography style, which emphasizes the use of the full tonal range in a photograph. This approach has greatly shaped the way I view and capture images.

What camera do you prefer to use?

I prefer shooting with film, particularly using my Leica. It allows me to act and react intuitively, capturing moments with a strong sense of mood and emotion. The manual focus helps me perfectly capture a smile or a fleeting expression. For more performance-oriented photography, I turn to my Canon, which delivers excellent results in dynamic situations.

Do you have any favorite wedding venues in Phuket that you love to shoot at?

Honestly, I don't have a specific favorite wedding venue in Phuket. I find beauty in each location, and I enjoy capturing the unique atmosphere that every venue offers.

Can you recall a particularly memorable or special wedding you have photographed?

I once photographed a wedding where the couple had chosen a venue that, while beautiful, wasn’t ideal for hosting a large number of guests and hadn’t been thoroughly planned. On the wedding day, it rained, adding to the challenges. Despite the weather and the imperfect circumstances, both the couple and their guests embraced the situation and made the most of it. It was memorable because everyone came together, overcoming the difficulties and imperfections to fully enjoy the day.

If you could go back to any time in history, what famous wedding would you like to photograph?

Photographing David Beckham’s wedding would be a dream for me, combining my love for football and photography. As a lifelong football fan, capturing the wedding of such an iconic footballer would be a perfect blend of my passions. I’m drawn to the emotions and heartfelt moments at weddings, and I can imagine how meaningful and personal those would be at David Beckham’s wedding. His event would likely be full of elegance and unique details, offering a wonderful opportunity to blend my artistic style with the atmosphere of such a high-profile occasion.

Lastly, what advice would you give to couples when preparing for their wedding day?

My advice for couples preparing for their wedding day is to ensure you get plenty of rest beforehand. It’s also important to take the opportunity to express your love and emotions to your loved ones. For many couples, this may be a rare chance to openly share your feelings, so make the most of it. (Interview conducted in Thai)
