How do you prepare for a wedding ceremony and how do you collaborate with the couple throughout the process?
I first request to have an online meeting with the couple, limiting to 2 pre-event meetings before the wedding date. Within the meeting, I will ask and gauge the style of the couple, understand their expectations, the type of mood they wish to have on their special day, what I shouldn’t say or is sensitive to and also the dynamics within their family (if it’s complicated). I would then thereafter share with them my style and will be ready to prepare the MC script AFTER I receive the Events agenda with time codes.
When the agenda is received, I will work on the 1st MC script (earliest 3 weeks before the event date because now I’m quite busy) and then send it to the couple and cc wedding planner for their check and review. Then a 2nd draft will be prepared and will be sent again to the couple and cc to wedding planner for their review or approval.
This should all be done well before the couples fly into Phuket or other destinations and if needed, we will have a last minute pre-wedding meeting to go over any loose items, changed agendas, personal requests as well as for me to feel the energy of the couple in person. This process will allow for the smoothest and best understanding between all sides before their special day.
As for my own personal preparation, I write and study my own script (especially the ones in Thai and Cantonese), make sure I have at least 1-2 meetings with the wedding couple and make sure they have seen and replied to the MC script that I sent to receive their feedback. The couple is required to read my script in order for them to understand how important their day is to me and also get to know my style since I DO NOT read my scripts while I am performing. I only glance and speak based on the flow of the event, mood of the audience and how I observe the energy that is needed in order for me to adjust how something is said.
