10 Questions

Could you tell us about your hometown and any other places that hold a place in your heart?

My hometown is in Phang Nga, a place that's dear to me. It's a small and peaceful city, where people are friendly and nature is all around. Unlike other Southern towns, it often sees fog and rain which is part of its charm. Living here has given me the chance to grow amidst the beauty of nature.

When did you first move to Phuket and why?

I've been primarily working in Phuket for quite some time now, but I still reside in Phang Nga, which is just a short drive away. I prefer living in my hometown because of the warm community, surrounded by family and friends. Plus, the cost of living in Phang Nga is significantly more affordable compared to Phuket.

What inspired your choice of becoming a wedding photographer?

Becoming a wedding photographer was a natural progression from my long-standing hobby of photography, which I pursued passionately during the film camera era. Initially drawn to capturing landscapes and scenery, my journey into wedding photography began unexpectedly when I was offered the opportunity to stand in for a photographer at a Thai wedding, with a significant payment of 3,000 baht, a considerable sum at the time. Realizing the potential of this field as a viable career path, I eventually found myself immersed in the world of wedding photography. Starting out at a wedding studio in Phang Nga, where I mainly captured pre-wedding moments for local couples, my journey as a photographer took a significant turn when I was approached by The Sarojin in Khao Lak to document a Western wedding. From that point on, my career as a wedding photographer truly began.

What is your favorite moment to capture during a wedding?

One of the most cherished moments at weddings is the "First Look.” It's incredibly touching when the groom sees his soon-to-be-wife in her wedding dress for the first time before the ceremony, often leading to emotional and heartwarming reactions.

Is there any photographer or artist who greatly influenced your style?

I've found inspiration in the work of Aidan Dockery, an award-winning wedding photographer from the UK. His ability to capture moments in a natural, emotive style has deeply influenced my own approach. Despite having worked alongside him for many years, I continue to be inspired by his work, finding new lessons and insights to learn from him constantly.

What camera do you prefer to use?

I prefer using Canon cameras which are known for their excellent image quality, color reproduction, and dynamic range. The autofocus system is highly praised for its speed, accuracy, and performance, which is crucial for capturing fast-moving accurately, such as in the first dance scene. Also, I find Canon cameras particularly adept at spot focusing, which enhances the precision and clarity of my shots. And lastly, RAW files generated from Canon cameras are really easy to process, making post-production work smoother.

Do you have any favorite wedding venues in Phuket that you love to shoot at?

While Phuket offers stunning locations, my personal favorites are elsewhere. I love capturing weddings at Rayavadee in Krabi. The resort is situated in a breathtaking natural setting on the edge of the Andaman Sea. Its beautiful views and romantic atmosphere are perfect for wedding ceremonies and photography. Additionally, The Sarojin in Khao Lak holds sentimental value for me, as it's where I began my journey as a wedding photographer.

Can you recall a particularly memorable or special wedding you have photographed?

While I don't have one specific wedding that stands out as particularly memorable, I have a profound appreciation for elopements. Elopements possess a unique charm and intimacy that resonate deeply with me as a photographer. Each elopement I've had the privilege to capture holds its own special significance, as it represents a couple's decision to prioritize their love and commitment above all else.

If you could go back to any time in history, what famous wedding would you like to photograph?

If I could choose a wedding from history to photograph, I'd actually prefer to learn from other photographers instead of focusing on one famous event. I'm more inspired by studying how different photographers have improved their skills over time, rather than being drawn to specific celebrities or locations. What really gets me excited is seeing the talent and creativity of photographers shine through their work, and I'm always looking to learn from that.

Lastly, what advice would you give to couples when preparing for their wedding day?

Preparing for your wedding day is the occasion filled with anticipation and excitement. One of the key pieces of advice I can offer to couples is to prioritize finding a photography style that resonates with you both. Your wedding album will be a timeless keepsake, so investing time in selecting a photographer whose style aligns with your vision is paramount. While cost is certainly a factor to consider, it's essential not to make it the sole determining factor. Remember, cheaper prices often correlate with lower quality and may not capture the essence of your special day as you envision. Additionally, amid the whirlwind of the wedding day itself, try to remain present in the moment. Allow yourself to savor every precious second of this once-in-a-lifetime event. Entrust the logistical details to your wedding planner or coordinator, freeing yourselves to fully enjoy celebration of the day. By focusing on being present and embracing the love and connection surrounding you, you'll create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.
